Dude, where are the digital to analogue converters?

Hey Hammy,

Looks like I won’t be mapping digital OTA TV signals this weekend after all.

After a week of searching for a digital to analogue OTA TV signal converter, I’m still empty-handed.  I tried all the big electronic box stores and even smaller boutique stores. No luck.  Everyone is out of stock.

Why are stores all out of these converters?

Could it be that they only order a few at a time?

Are Canadians snapping them up 15 months in advance of the digital OTA TV transition?

Might there be a bias out there against viewers tapping into free HDTV?

Whatever the reason, stores better start carrying converter boxes in greater numbers or it’s gonna get ugly by this time next year.
